myAAVSB Portal: How to Log In, Apply for the VTNE and Find Your Score

A step-by-step guide to the myAAVSB portal: how to log in, apply for the VTNE, pay the fee, schedule with PSI using your candidate ID and find your score.

The myAAVSB portal is the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) account you use to apply for the VTNE, upload eligibility documents, find your candidate ID for scheduling with PSI, and see your score report. The account is set up as part of your VTNE application, and you log in through the "Log In" link on aavsb.org. You register for the VTNE through the AAVSB, not through PSI and not through a prep site.

Quick Reference

  • Apply for the VTNE online with the AAVSB. The application is open all year.
  • Use your legal first and last name exactly as it appears on your government photo ID.
  • Fee: $375, paid by card or with a VTNE voucher code. Fees are reviewed annually.
  • Your candidate ID is in myAAVSB. You need it to schedule with PSI.
  • Your score report appears in myAAVSB within 3 business days and stays visible for one year.

What the myAAVSB Portal Does

The AAVSB owns the VTNE. PSI delivers it. Your state or provincial board issues your credential. The myAAVSB portal is where the AAVSB part happens. According to the AAVSB and its Candidate Information Handbook, you use the portal to:

  • Check the status of your VTNE application.
  • Download and upload forms, such as the on-the-job training (OJT) form or a work verification form.
  • Upload a copy of your ID and a notarized name change document if your legal name changes.
  • Update your mailing address and email address.
  • Find your candidate ID, which you need to schedule with PSI.
  • View your VTNE score report.

The login on this site, vtneexam.com, is a separate account for practice questions and study tools. It has no connection to your AAVSB application or your official score.

How to Log In to myAAVSB

Go to aavsb.org and choose "Log In" at the top of the page. The AAVSB uses a single sign-on, so the same login covers its other services. If you have never applied for the VTNE, you will not have a candidate record yet. Start with the application link on the AAVSB "Applying to Take the VTNE" page, and your myAAVSB account will be created as part of the application.

Save this email address

All VTNE messages come from vettech@aavsb.org, including your eligibility and scheduling email and score notices. The AAVSB asks candidates to add it to their address book. Use a current email address that is unique to you.

  1. Confirm your jurisdiction and pathway. The AAVSB approves eligibility based on the rules of the state or province your score will be sent to. There are three pathways: graduate of an AVMA-CVTEA or CVMA accredited program (accepted everywhere), on-the-job training (only Alaska, Montana, Utah and Wisconsin, per the handbook), and the alternate pathway (select jurisdictions). Use the AAVSB Regulatory Board Look-up to check your board's rules.
  2. Get your documents to the AAVSB. If you graduated from an accredited program before 2025, your school must send your transcript directly to vettech@aavsb.org. If you graduated in 2025 or later, your program director uploads a roster instead, and you cannot test until you are on it. OJT candidates download the form for their jurisdiction, have the supervising veterinarian sign it, and upload it to the portal. Alternate pathway candidates send transcripts and, where required, a work verification form.
  3. Start the online application. Enter your legal first and last name exactly as on your unexpired, government-issued photo ID. Request testing accommodations at this stage if you need them.
  4. Wait for the eligibility review. If your documents are not yet reviewed, the application stops at a holding point. Review can take up to two weeks once all documents are in.
  5. Complete the application and pay. After review, you receive a notice to finish the application. Pay the $375 fee by card or enter a voucher code on the final screen. Fees are nonrefundable.
  6. Choose your exam window. You can select from the next two windows. Each window has a completed application cutoff.
  7. Schedule with PSI. Watch for the email from vettech@aavsb.org. Create a PSI account, find your candidate ID in myAAVSB, and book a test center or live remote proctoring. PSI can also be reached at +1 (833) 256-1419.

VTNE Windows and Application Cutoffs

The VTNE is given four times a year. These are the windows and cutoffs published by the AAVSB. Always check the AAVSB site before you plan around them.

Exam window Completed application cutoff
February 15 to April 15March 15
May 15 to July 15June 15
August 15 to October 15September 15
November 15 to January 15December 15

Eligibility review must be finished before you can pick a window, so apply early. For planning advice, see our guide to VTNE test dates.

Changing Your Exam Date or Window

  • Same window: change the date, time or location in your PSI account, subject to seat availability, at least 48 hours before your appointment.
  • Next window: you may transfer once per application, to the very next window, for a $90 administrative fee. Email vettech@aavsb.org at least 48 hours before your appointment, or before the window ends if you have not scheduled.
  • Missed window: if you do not test in the window you applied for, you must reapply and pay the full fee.

Finding Your VTNE Score in myAAVSB

You see your pass or fail status as soon as you finish the exam. The AAVSB no longer emails scores. Your score report appears in myAAVSB within three business days, and you can view it for one year. That report is for your own use and is not valid for licensure. The jurisdiction you selected receives your official score within 72 hours.

VTNE results are reported as scaled scores from 200 to 800, and 425 is the passing score. The AAVSB does not report a number or percentage correct. If you need your score sent to a different jurisdiction, use the AAVSB VAULT transfer service. Read more in our guide to the VTNE passing score and what to do after passing the VTNE.

If You Need to Retake

A retake needs a new application and a new fee. You may retest 31 days after your previous attempt, and no more than three times in a calendar year. The AAVSB allows five attempts in total, and a sixth or later attempt needs AAVSB Board of Directors approval. All Canadian provinces, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee require board approval after three attempts. Full details are in our VTNE retake policy guide.

Common myAAVSB Problems and Fixes

  • The application will not let me continue. You have reached the eligibility stopping point. Check that your transcript, roster or forms have reached the AAVSB.
  • I never got the scheduling email. Check spam and confirm the email address in myAAVSB. Add vettech@aavsb.org to your contacts.
  • My name changed. Upload an unexpired government photo ID and a notarized legal name change document, and contact the AAVSB in writing no later than one week before your exam.
  • Something went wrong on exam day. Contact vettech@aavsb.org within 48 hours of your appointment. After that, scores stand.
